Buffalo Bills fire coach Rex Ryan
Rex Ryan is out in Buffalo, and a coveted coaching prospect is taking his place for the Bills’ finale.
Offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn has been promoted to interim coach in place of Ryan, who was fired Tuesday with a game left in his second season with the franchise. Ryan’s twin brother, Rob, was also fired as assistant head coach.
“I spoke with Rex earlier today and we mutually agreed that the time to part ways is now,” Bills owner Terry Pegula said in a statement Tuesday. “These decisions are never easy. I want to take this opportunity to thank Rex for all his efforts and wish him all the best moving forward.”
The Bills missed the playoffs both seasons under Ryan, whose team is 7-8 after an 8-8 finish last year.
In eight seasons as a head coach, Ryan is 61-66. He led the New York Jets to the playoffs in 2009 and 2010.
