The California Department of Public Health releases data tracking the spread of the coronavirus in Los Angeles County.

About 1 out of every 3 people in the county has tested positive, 3,747,598 in total.

The case tally includes 224,681 probable cases diagnosed with an antigen test, which return results faster but may be less accurate.

Over the past week, the county has averaged 78 new cases and 0.4 new deaths per day.

Seven-day averages offer a more stable view of the trend than daily totals.

On Jan. 3, 2022, the state reported an exceptionally high number of new cases due to a backlog from the holiday weekend. The entire bar may not appear on this chart.

An estimated people have recovered from COVID-19 or are no longer infectious, according to a common statistical method applied by The Times. Roughly cases remain active.

Vaccines

So far, 83.3% of Los Angeles County residents have received at least one dose and 74.8% are fully vaccinated.

To date, 22,756,680 vaccines have been administered. Over the last seven days, an average of 1,572 doses per day have been given out.

State data show roughly 91% of the county’s seniors have received at least a single shot.

Hospitals and patients
