We Need to Hear More Arab Voices
Your Feb. 28 article featuring “Arab Voices” is a great idea and should appear often, if not daily. Right after 9/11 there were pictures on the news of people in the Middle East dancing in the street; I couldn’t understand why they hated us so much.
Now, though I think it is almost too late, we must try to understand. I am not interested in the opinions of Arab ambassadors or other administrative servants, just the people who live in towns and villages. I don’t agree with the opinions I read, but if we don’t listen we are sticking our heads in the sand.

Re “Bush: Iraq Is Key to Mideast,” Feb. 27: Now President Bush announces that war in Iraq is really about establishing peace among Israelis and Palestinians. I’m sure that we can anticipate future press conferences explaining why invading Iraq is essential to improving public schools and curing cancer.

Bush has single-handedly resuscitated the global antiwar movement -- no mean feat in a post-9/11 world. And he’s accomplished something Bill Clinton could only dream of: He has actually made people feel good about being liberals once again.
