Jury Pool Narrows in U.S. Embassy Bombings Trial

NEW YORK — The pool of potential jurors was three-fourths complete Friday when the second week of jury selection ended in the trial of four men accused of conspiring to blow up U.S. embassies in Africa.
Twelve jurors and six alternates will be chosen from a panel of 80 potential jurors. As of Friday, 61 had been selected.
The Aug. 7, 1998, bombings at U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, killed 224 people, including 12 Americans. Thousands more were injured.
The bombings were allegedly ordered by Osama bin Laden, an exiled Saudi millionaire who is accused in an indictment of ordering Americans killed wherever they are found.
