The City Council approved spending about $182,000 for designing upgrades for the San Clemente Municipal Golf Course at its meeting Wednesday.
The eroding course needs about $1.5 million in improvements to its bunkers, cart paths, greens and tees, driving range and parking lot, according to city officials. Playing fees are not expected to increase.
The golf course has about 115,000 players annually, said Tom Evans, an employee of the course.
On a 4-0 vote, with Councilman Jim Dahl absent, the council approved a contract with Tustin-based Rainville and Bye, golf-course architects, for the designs. Information: (949) 361-8200.
