FOUNTAIN, Colo. — Chief mechanic Steve Fried, critically injured in a pit accident during the Indianapolis 500 on May 30, returned to work on a limited basis Saturday.
Fried, crew chief for Energizer Motorsports, will operate the valve on the pit-side fuel tank during today’s Colorado 200.
Fried, 47, suffered head and other injuries when he was hit by a skidding car and flipped in the air. Released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on June 13, he continues his rehabilitation and still faces several surgeries.
