Pact May End Strike by French Truck Drivers

ROUEN, France —  Striking French truck drivers tore down their roadblocks and signed agreements Friday designed to end a 12-day standoff over wages and working conditions.

“It’s the beginning of the end. You see, they’re rolling,” trucker Jean Mausse said as a barricade was lifted in this Normandy city, allowing 400 tractor-trailer rigs stranded a week or more to move.

There was no official announcement that the strike was over, and at least two of the five trucker unions said the issue of salaries remained a sticking point.

But Prime Minister Alain Juppe said, “The point of equilibrium has been found.”
