EAST RUTHERFORD, Conn. — United Technologies Corp’s Pratt & Whitney unit said it received an order for engines valued at $55 million from Toa Domestic Airlines of Japan to power 11 McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series jetliners the airline plans to acquire.
The airline has ordered four MD-87 and three MD-81 twinjets and has taken options on four additional MD-81s. The aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney’s 20,000-pound thrust JT8D-217B engine.
Deliveries of the MD-81 aircraft will start in 1987 and the MD-87s in 1988.
