TAIPEI, Taiwan — Four men have been charged with arson and murder in a south Taiwan hotel fire that killed 30 people in south Taiwan on April 1, court officials said Thursday.
The officials said the four, including a taxi driver, quarrelled with a waitress in the restaurant of the Emperor Hotel in Tainan after she refused to go out with them. They returned with a gasoline bomb and set the six-story hotel ablaze, trapping most of the sleeping guests, officials said. The prosecutor has demanded the death penalty for all four.
